Better UI and embeds that respect your privacy

Published: March 5, 2026

Introduction

I have a small notebook where I write down my ideas as soon as I think of them. It helps me stay focused while working because I easily get distracted by ideas that pop into my head. If I don't write them down immediately, they won't leave my head and I'll also forget them later. Most ideas are centered around projects, synths and paperboat.website and there were some small features that I implemented in the last few weeks:

UI

I wrote a new CSS framework for paperboat.website and some of my other projects, directly inspired by older iOS apps. It's great to split everything up into separate contexts (News, Sites, Webrings, ...) so you always know where you are. I also gave the buttons and other elements some depth which also adapts to your site's color theme.

Table of Contents

There's a new block called Table of Contents. You can place it anywhere in your posts or pages and it'll list and link all headings that you used. At the top you can find an example of it.

Nesting

Here's a short paragraph to demonstrate nested headings in the table of contents.

Embeds

Embeds are pretty substantial for a blogging platform since they're a quick and easy way to share something that was posted on other platforms. For this, there's also a new block called External Embed. When you save it, it will fetch your link and store the title and thumbnail of the site you linked. It's great because neither your or your visitors' browser has to fetch anything from another website. All requests are still coming from and going to paperboat.website. You won't leak any data to any other site or service, mainly respecting your visitors' privacy.

Also, I'm super happy to see some sites and posts pop up in the webrings. As always, if you have ideas or if something doesn't work, let me know!
